About the Project

Challenges & Solution

Skynine shot a series of summer music camp videos for the music & arts department at West Chester University.

Presented by WCU’s Wells School of Music, Elementary School Summer Music Camp and Middle School Summer Music Camp offer large ensemble and small ensemble performance opportunities for band, orchestra, and vocal students. Students will receive instruction from some of the region’s finest educators and performers. Daily faculty recitals allow students to see professional musicians perform in an informative and engaging setting.

The High School Summer Music Institute offers resident and commuter options for students currently in grades 9 through 12. Students have the opportunity to perform in a variety of large and small ensembles including wind ensemble, string orchestra, chorus, flute ensemble, clarinet ensemble, saxophone ensemble, double reed ensemble, brass ensemble, percussion ensemble and vocal ensemble. All ensembles perform at the end of the Institute, and all concerts are open to family and friends. Auditions for a solo recital are held at the beginning of the week.

The Summer Jazz Camp, which is designed for advanced middle school and all high school students, participants will explore the pedagogy of jazz improvisation, arranging, orchestration, jazz history, and performance techniques. Visiting artists as well as the WCU faculty will perform and conduct masterclasses on various subjects. All participants will need to have a knowledge of scales, be able to read music, transpose and be proficient on an instrument.
