Skynine Delivers Advanced Live-Streaming Solutions For CVHSumberland Valley High School Theater Department
The drama team at Cumberland Valley High School has trusted Skynine to produce high-quality recordings of their musicals for over a decade. After a year off due to COVID, 2021 provided them the opportunity to return to the stage, albeit with a very limited audience. Live-streaming the show became essential, and we were the perfect fit to make it happen.

Prior to show week, we designed and animated a custom loop of a digital program to be used as a pre-show. The design incorporated space for two live video feeds—one from the front of house and one backstage. Standby screens, emergency slates, and end credits were also developed and animated as part of the broadcast package.

Skynine Leverages Advanced "FlexPack" Technology and Eight-Camera Setup For Dynamic Livestream
At the heart of the production was our routing FlexPack, equipped with a 40×40 UHD matrix router. This matrix allowed us to send independent video feeds to various locations, including the audio broadcast console, backstage monitors, pit monitors, and a self-switchable monitor for the lighting designer. The lighting designer was especially pleased to isolate any camera on his monitors independently from the livestream, enabling him to adjust lights in real-time for optimal on-camera appearance.
Our production design featured an eight-camera setup, ranging from dedicated close, mid, and wide shots to side-angle, high-angle, and backstage cameras. Video and intercom/tally were mostly distributed via tactical fiber.

To best prepare for such a dynamic live show, we studied the entire production in advance, even recording a run-through ahead of the final tech rehearsal. We brought the whole crew in for the final tech rehearsal, during which we performed a test stream. Following this rehearsal, we reviewed the stream, and as a team, discussed and made necessary adjustments.
